Disco Brows : Bring on The Shimmer & Shine

My love of all things social media means that like so many others, I am pretty obsessed with TikTok. It’s an addictive landscape where anything and everything you could want to watch is at your fingertips if you just keep scrolling long enough. My FYP is cocktail of delight, mixing cute animals melting my heart, food reviews that make me drool, and makeup trends and hacks that I can’t resist trying for myself. Which leads me to the Disco Brows. This makeup look was created by TikToker and makeup artist TheMegsCahill (watch her TikTok here) , but I tried an even simpler version: using just a highlighter.

The Experience & The Results

The highlighter I used was Pat McGrath’s Skin Fetish: Sublime Skin Highlighting Trio. This highlighter set it amazing, adding a multidimensional shine that comes alive on the skin, changing a bit with each twist and turn as the light catches it. All of her products seem so stunning, sleek, and cutting edge, but with a price tag to match. So if you don’t want to shell out the money for it, which I can totally understand, you can use whatever shimmery powder you have on hand.

There not much to say in terms of “the experience” of creating this brow makeup, as all I really did was push the highlighter into my brows and surrounding skin. I tried it with two of the three highlighters: Iridescent Pink and Fine Gold. I tried with a brush first but it didn’t pack enough product for my liking, so I turned to using my fingers which did the trick.

I applied Iridisecent Pink first and my first thoughts were “Oh…this is too much.” However, after staring at my reflection for a few minutes, I decided that it was actually really cute, it was just a look that I wasn’t using to seeing on myself. This is something you can use to spice up a night look and have all eyes on you at the club, or add a sparkly unique touch to your musical festival makeup. But it might be too much for the daytime outing, at least here in Korea.

I then tried the color Fine Gold on my other brow just for the fun of it and it was… a bit of a disappointment. While the pink complimented my skin coloring and makeup, and added a fun sheen that suited my dark brows, the gold just wasnโ€™t working. In fact, it seemed to make my bushy brows disappear a bit. So my advice for other dark haired beauties out there is to avoid this shade of gold and look for other fun colors that will match your skin coloring and raven brows.

The Conclusion

I think this would look like 1000% better if was able to slick back my brows like Ms. Cahill did to create a laminated effect first, because the shimmer then would look like it was threading between the skin and the brow hairs. That style just creates a much more beautiful and almost fairy tale look in my opinion. But even so, I think this a fun, kind of out of the box makeup idea for someone, and I will definitely be playing with more colors to see how they would look. So I encourage you all to the same and let me know how it turned out for you!
