3CE’s Take A Layer Multi Pot has been around for a few years, but it one of the true staples of my makeup collection. Whether I am going on date or a weekend trip, I always make sure that this multi-use lip and cheek product is tucked safely away in my purse.

The Product Claims

Claim 1: “lightweight and matte formula”

The Experience & The Results

There are seven multi pots in total but unfortunately I have only bought two of them. The ones I own are Cabbage Rose and Diotima. Style Nanda, the company that owns 3CE , describes Cabbage rose as an “elegant rose hue” and calls Diotima a soft warm beige with a “drop of juicy apricot”. Both of them look creamy in the pot, as they should because they contain shea butter, but as you apply it to the skin the cream texture transforms into a powdery one, making the finish matte as Style Nanda promised. When it comes to picking a color for yourself, I wouldn’t go by the product photos that are shown on their website, as many of them seem to be with an added gloss on top to give the Take A Layer Multi Pot an added shine. If you want that effect, you need to layer another product on top.

Now, this is great when applying the multi pots to the cheeks, but this type of powdery lip product is a little tricky to apply on the lips. If your lips aren’t properly hydrated and moisturized like in my photos, then all the little cracks and lines in the lips are going to be highlighted.

It also smudges really easily so you need to be careful when applying it. I tend to use a finger to just lightly dab it on, but it usually gets on the outer corner of my lips when I do that.

I think all these issues are minor and I’m willing to overlook them because I adore the colors. They are buildable and highly pigmented which I love. I can use them for a sheer barely there touch of color or build them up to a true rich hue. Between Cabbage Rose and Diotima, I tend to reach for Cabbage Rose a bit more for a single color look, and I use Diotima when mixing cheek or lip products to add more depth or gradient.

The Conclusion

I think it’s obvious that I really love 3CE’s Take a Layer Multi Pots and if I had the money I would buy all of them straight away. They are incredibly convenient, versatile, and compact, the trifecta for a face product. Which color are you interested in?
